With reference to your Despatch No. 238 of the

25th. July, I have the honour to inform you that, when adopting the

rule in force in the lalay Peninsula relating to the grant of gratuities to Nurses and Certificated Women Teachers, I propose to substitute the word "appointed" for the word "selected" in line one.

as it appears to me that it would be very invidious to give the

gratuity to a woman selected in England and refuse it to one

selected in Hongkong.

I should be glad if you would approve of this

alteration in the rule.
